Full disclosure: I love Josie Brown’s books. There I’ve said it and warned you, so no surprise when I say I loved THE CANDIDATE.
Normally, I’m not big into political thrillers unless the main character’s name is Sean Dillon, but since Josie has never let me down before, I gave this a shot and I am not disappointed. It’s fast paced, and full of twists and turns that will keep you guessing, because as soon as you think you know where she’s going with the story…BAM! she throws you a curve ball. Her characters are smart, snappy and just real enough that you have to wonder who is her DC source. Poor Ben, the main character, might have been playing the game for a while, but he’s still got a thing or two to learn and not just about politics, but about women. The romantic element was just enough to keep the pages smoking, but not so much that it overshadowed the mystery and made me like our hero even more. Ben Brinker’s character started out kind of smarmy, but by the end, he had me rooting for him to win (against the bad guys and for the girl to be his). Josie does a great job rounding out her secondary characters as well as painting a great setting so you feel like you’re sitting front and center as the story unfolds around you. If you’re looking for great story that blends suspense, political corruption and romance, look no farther than THE CANDIDATE.

Wow. I am touched and honored by this review, Gail. It's always wonderful when a novelist you admire appreciates your books, especially those that stretch the boundaries of what you are known to right. Thanks for making my night!
